“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together”
ABOUT US
After completion of the North American Indigenous Games in Six Nations, July 16-23, 2017, the Indigenous female athletes, managers, coaches, trainers, parents, families, and supporters realized one thing: lacrosse is a great way to connect to the culture, history, and traditions. Lacrosse was used to settle disputes and train warriors.
With the initiative of Cherlyn Billy, Storm Selects Lacrosse was born, and today, it has evolved to teach the value of community and teamwork and re-instill pride in Indigenous identity. Cherlyn went on to host, run, and gather our female indigenous girls from all across British Columbia in camps and events.
On August 4-6, 2022, Cherlyn gathered the girls for the Inaugural USBOXLA Nationals Women's Box Lacrosse Tournament in San Jose, California. The roster comprised of ladies from the 2017 female NAIGS team alongside some new up-and-coming girls. This group went on to bring home the Bronze medal.
Then, on December 15th, 2022, we lost our guiding eagle, Cherlyn Billy; she was our inspiration and steadfast light; she truly was the glue that held our Indigenous girls from across the province and beyond together. She will be dearly missed.
This wasn't the end for CB's girls; in January of 2023, all these outstanding, fantastic female athletes, coaches, trainers and families celebrated her life and, with the collective agreement, decided that Storm would, should, and needed to live on. This community will continue, thanks to Savanna Smith, Penni King, and her sister Carolyn Billy at the wheel.
In celebration of Cherlyn, we will keep sharing the light and empowering the next generation of up-and-coming female lacrosse players. Stay tuned to see where Cherlyn's vision takes flight next.

Creators Game: The Medicine Game
Since 2017, Storm Selects Lacrosse Society has been finding and featuring some of the best players in British Columbia and Beyond. From coaching them on the ins-and-outs of the sport to honing their athletic skills, we’re proud to teach not only the love of the game, but to also impart the ideals of good sportsmanship, teamwork and loyalty. Honoring the concept of giving back to the medicine game, and building up the next generation of players through leadership and strong models from our alumni.
